Who is Zion?
Zion is an artist with a rugged style, who possesses great passion for what he does. His style reflects that, but he also has a professionalism that desires a clean look. When I design for him, I have to find a balance between both rugged and clean to fit his brand and speak to his audience.
Logo and Album Design
For his logo, I went with just the letter Z to represent him, instead of the whole name Zion. It needed to be simple and recognizable, yet unique. Soli Deo Gloria (Glory to God alone), is one of his later albums. I wanted to represent Christ in a unique way. Since the title is Latin, alluding to old-style orthodox churches through the use of stain glass art felt right. Once that was established, I hand-painted the title to merge the two looks.
Web Design
Zion wanted something clean and easy to navigate. He also had some really great photos to use as the basis. I decided to make the photos a big part of the design. I used full-size photos, broken up with text. Oversized type and color was used for emphasis in certain areas.
Tour Brand, Business Cards, and Bury Me Album Design
Death B4 Dishonor Tour involved several artists, and I wanted to have them all represented, so I chose to do a graffiti-styled spray painted graphic. Bury Me was a re-release album with bonus tracks. Zion wanted a clean redesign, so I went with a typographical approach. The O in Zion made a perfect tombstone. His cards really needed to be as simple as possible with the pertinent information readily accessible.
